Slovakia is currently spreading new and extremely dangerous types of fraud. Fraudsters try to bring up the psychological pressure and trust of people. Incorrect proceedings may result in empty accounts or stolen data. Slovenská sporiteľňa pointed out these activities today.
Fake brigades
In recent days, fraudsters have been actively addressing people and often calling them from foreign numbers, often from Austria. These can also be numbers that look like from Slovakia.
The automated voice leads the victims to save contact and communicate via WhatsApp or telegram. There they offer them work from home – clicking for ads or likeing posts.
The bank describes that at the beginning the victims can actually come to a smaller financial remuneration from a foreign account, which is intended to increase the credibility of the scheme. This is followed by registration on a fake investment platform.
“Subsequently, fraudsters will offer clients a registration on a fake investment platform. After completing the task – sending money – they promise high returns. However, each payment is followed by another task that requires another payment,” says the bank. This is supposedly a deceived person to lose 15,000 euros in a few days.
Fraudsters often ask personal data, including a copy of the identity card, thereby taking the victims of the risk of further misuse of documents.
“Tunneling” via NFC
According to Slovenská sporiteľňa, the second type of fraud is even more dangerous. It starts again with a call in which fraudsters say they want to pay the victims a profit from investment. However, the condition is to install the application on remote access. For example, “Hoptodesk”.
After installing it, scammers can get access to the victim’s mobile phone. They want her to put her card to the phone. “Thanks to NFC technology, fraudsters can then transfer the card data to their phone, where they have the same app. This way they can in real time, ie directly during the phone call, pay a foreign card or withdraw money from an ATM account that allows a contactless withdrawal,” the institution says.
How to protect yourself from fraudsters:
- Do not install apps on the instruction of other people,
- Do not give remote access to the device,
- Do not attach a card to your mobile at the instruction of someone else,
- Do not send money based on promises of quick earnings,
- Do not use the same login information on multiple platforms,
- Do not share the PIN to the card or data for internet banking,
- If you are doubt, please contact the bank.
- If you suspect fraud, contact the police.
