Slovakia Weather: Ice Storm and Strong Winds Expected Sunday

Much of Slovakia may experience ice and fog on Sunday, January 25th. Rain is possible‍ in some districts of the Banská bystrica region, and wind⁢ is forecast for western Slovakia. The‌ Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has⁣ thus issued first-degree warnings. SHMÚ informed about this on it’s ⁤website.

Warnings for ice apply in the⁣ districts of‍ Bratislava, Banská Bystrica, Košice, Prešov ⁤and Žilina regions, initially until ‌9:00 AM on Sunday. Ice may⁢ also form in the Trenčín region, with the exception of the districts of Myjava and Nové Mesto nad‌ Váhom. SHMÚ warned⁤ that the formation of ice poses a potential danger to both transport and ​pedestrian movement. “The occurrence of ice is common at this time of‌ year ⁢and in this area, but it can cause ⁢minor damage,”
