Sly & the Family Stone’s Earliest Live Recording to Be Released

A previously unreleased live album by Sly & The Family Stone, titled “The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967,” will be available July 18 on CD, LP and digital platforms. this funk and soul treasure captures the band a year before their breakthrough hit, “Dance To The Music.”
The recording showcases the original lineup during their stint as the house band at Redwood City, California’s Winchester Cathedral. They held that role from Dec. 16, 1966, to April 28, 1967.
Rich Romanello, Sly & the Family stone’s first manager, recorded “The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967” in the early hours of March 26, 1967. After the band signed with Epic Records, Romanello stored the 7-inch analog tapes for 35 years. In 2002, Sly & The Family Stone archivists Edwin and Arno Konings rediscovered the reels. alec Palao co-produced the restored recording for release.
