Sly & the Family Stone’s Earliest Live Recording to Be Released

A previously unreleased ⁤live album by⁢ Sly & ⁤The‍ Family Stone, titled​ “The⁢ First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967,” will be available July 18 on CD, LP and digital platforms. this funk⁣ and soul treasure​ captures the band a ‍year before their breakthrough hit, “Dance To The Music.”

The recording showcases the original ⁤lineup during their stint as the house band⁤ at Redwood City, California’s ​Winchester ⁣Cathedral. They held that role from Dec. ‌16, ⁤1966, to April⁣ 28, 1967.

Rich‌ Romanello, ⁣Sly & the Family stone’s first‌ manager, recorded “The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967” in the⁤ early hours ⁣of March 26, 1967.⁢ After the ⁤band signed with Epic ‍Records, Romanello stored the 7-inch ‍analog⁤ tapes for 35 years. In 2002,‌ Sly &⁢ The ⁤Family Stone archivists Edwin and Arno Konings rediscovered ‌the reels. alec Palao co-produced the restored recording for release.
