The crash occurred shortly after takeoff, with the aircraft going down in Southbrook Park near 62nd Avenue North and Florida Avenue North. First responders arrived at the scene at 11:51 a.m. And found the plane had caught fire upon impact. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and no injuries were reported on the ground.
According to Brooklyn Park police and the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft involved was a Beech F33A that had departed Crystal Airport just before the crash. Radar data showed the plane taking off at approximately 11:30 a.m. Heading northbound before disappearing from radar shortly thereafter.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the incident. Officials confirmed that Representative Liz Conmy, a member of the North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League Party from Fargo, was one of the two individuals who died in the crash. The identity of the second passenger has not been publicly released.
Authorities emphasized that there was no damage to property or injuries to individuals on the ground. The area around Southbrook Park remained cordoned off for investigation purposes as officials worked to determine the cause of the crash.
