What Happened?
On October 27, 2023, Smartlynx Airlines commenced a legal protection process (TAP) in Latvia. This move allows the airline to continue operating while addressing its financial obligations and implementing a restructuring plan. The airline intends to sell most of its Airbus A321 and Boeing 737-800 cargo aircraft to lessors, with the process expected to be completed by mid-2025. Concurrently,Smartlynx is transitioning to a passenger-focused fleet comprised of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft,considered more cost-effective for its operations. One A321 freighter is scheduled for retirement at the end of 2025.
