SmartThings Update: Now Bar Integration and More
Samsung has released a significant update to its SmartThings app, introducing Now Bar integration and other enhancements. The update, version 1.8.33.25, brings several new features designed to improve user experiance and home automation capabilities. Users interested in automating their home with SmartThings should find this update worthwhile.
The moast notable addition is the support for Samsung’s Now Bar. With the latest update, SmartThings routines and devices can appear as Live Activities on the lock screen, status bar, and notification panel. these Live Activities are displayed as toggleable chips, providing quick shortcuts to smart home functions. Users can enable this feature in settings under Lock screen and AOD, then Now Bar, and finally View more, where SmartThings can be toggled on.
The SmartThings update also includes the ability to temporarily share a Galaxy SmartTag’s location via a link. Users can choose to share the location for 12 hours, 24 hours, or a week with up to five people. Shared users must sign in with a Samsung account to view the location.
A new “Home Life” section offers personalized insights and service suggestions based on a short survey about the user’s living situation, such as the number of residents and whether they have pets. Additionally, routines now support pre-execution confirmations. If enabled, the app will request confirmation before running a routine, canceling it if no response is received in time. This is notably useful in situations where automation might interfere with normal activities.
The updated app also remembers the user’s last view, whether it was the Home tab or the Map view, when reopened. The rollout is occurring in phases, so some users may not see the changes promptly.
What’s next
Users can expect the phased rollout of the Samsung SmartThings app update to continue, bringing the new features to more devices in the coming days. Keep an eye on the Google Play Store for the update to become available.
