Snap into the Future: Revolutionary $99 AR Glasses Redefine Social Media Experience
Snap Unveils 5th Generation Spectacles: Augmented Reality Glasses for Developers
Snap, the company behind social media platform Snapchat, has released the fifth generation of its Spectacles, augmented reality (AR) glasses designed for developers. Weighing 226g, the MR headset is lighter than MetaQuest and Vision Pro but heavier than regular glasses.
The new Spectacles feature an augmented reality function that projects images in front of the user’s eyes, as well as a hand-tracking function that recognizes hand movements. They can take photos and videos, play music, and are equipped with OpenAI’s artificial intelligence, allowing for voice conversations or interactions with AI based on what the user is seeing.

However, foreign media outlets have reported that the actual fit of the glasses is not ideal due to their large and thick frame. As a product for developers, Spectacles can only be used through a one-year subscription of $99 per month.
Snap has announced that partners like Lego, Niantic, and ILM Immersive are developing apps using software like Lens Studio and SnapOS. Lego is bringing its AR game Bricktacular to Spectacles, while Niantic is bringing its AR services like Peridot and Skanibus to Spectacles. ILM Immersive plans to create an immersive experience using Star Wars.
