For Irvine’s Jennie Bancroft, the World Championships at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre became an immersive experience.
The 37-year-old snooker fan won a competition granting her access to every single session of the prestigious
tournament.

Bancroft, initially skeptical about her win, soon found herself immersed in the world of professional
snooker. “At first, I was like ‘is it a joke?'” Bancroft said. “I had that moment of ‘is it a hoax? this isn’t
real’ but I was over the moon,I was thrilled.”
The experience, however, wasn’t without its challenges. “Thankfully the seats at the Crucible are quite
pleasant, but they’re not designed to be sat in for eight hours a day,” she noted, adding, “It’s been a
little bit hard on the back and the knees.”
Bancroft’s interest in snooker began in childhood, watching matches with her family. The 2008 match between
Ronnie O’Sullivan and Ali Carter reignited her passion for the sport.O’Sullivan won that year, defeating Carter
18-8.
