Taiwan’s Mountains Get a Rare Snowfall, Drawing Crowds
HEHUAN MOUNTAINS, TAIWAN – A dusting of snow transformed Taiwan’s Hehuan mountains into a winter wonderland overnight, attracting crowds eager to witness the unusual sight.
The snowfall, wich began late Tuesday and continued into Wednesday morning, brought about half a centimeter of accumulation to the popular tourist destination. Picturesque Songxue Tower, perched high in the mountains, was adorned with a delicate layer of white.
The sudden snowfall prompted authorities to implement traffic restrictions on Provincial Highway 14A between Hehuanshan Wuling and Songxue tower due to icy road conditions.Despite the closure, eager visitors flocked to the mountains. A long line of cars snaked along the 18-kilometer stretch of Provincial Highway 14A leading to the Kuifeng Control station in Renai Township.
“We heard about the snow and just had to come see it for ourselves,” said one visitor, bundled up against the cold. “Its a rare sight here in Taiwan.”
Authorities urged drivers to exercise caution and use snow chains if necessary. Traffic resumed on Provincial Highway 14A from Kuifeng to Songxue Tower at 7 a.m. Wednesday, but some sections remained icy.
The snowfall provided a welcome respite from Taiwan’s usual winter weather, offering a glimpse of a different kind of beauty.

Alan: Me too! apparently, the Hehuan Mountains got a good dusting overnight. There are these unbelievable photos of the Songxue Tower wholly covered in white.
Sarah: Wow, that sounds amazing! I’ve always wanted to visit Taiwan. What’s it normally like in the winter there?
Alan: Usually pretty mild. I think they get occasional coldness, but snow is super rare. That’s why everyone’s going crazy about it.
Sarah: I can imagine! Are there a lot of tourists there now?
Alan: Definitely. The roads leading up to the mountains are completely packed. Apparently, there were even some traffic restrictions as of icy conditions.
Sarah: That makes sense. Are they expecting more snow?

Sarah: Well, lucky for those who got to see it! it must have been a stunning sight.
Alan: Absolutely. It shows you how nature can always surprise you, even in a place you think you know well.
