dangerous black ice conditions are causing hazardous travel across the northern tablelands of New South Wales, prompting warnings from emergency services too avoid unnecessary journeys.
Black Ice Poses Critically important Risk
The New South Wales State emergency Service (SES) has issued a stark warning about the pervasive threat of black ice,a treacherous phenomenon that forms a transparent, frequently enough invisible layer of ice on road surfaces. This icy coating is creating extremely dangerous driving conditions throughout the northern tablelands region.
“We have road crash crews prepositioned and ready to respond to any rescues, but we ask the community to please avoid unnecessary travel,” said Hogan, an SES spokesperson. The service is emphasizing that non-essential travel should be postponed to minimize the risk of accidents.
For those who must venture out, Hogan advised, “If you do need to be on the roads in areas with snow, drive with caution, always use your brakes gently and drive slowly.” this advice underscores the need for heightened awareness and a significantly reduced speed when navigating icy or snowy terrain.
Severe weather Conditions Widespread
Beyond the immediate threat of black ice,the region is also bracing for other severe weather impacts. Damaging wind gusts are forecast to exceed 90km/h, posing a risk to property and potentially causing power outages. Furthermore, large and powerful surf conditions are expected along the coast, which can be dangerous for beachgoers and those in coastal areas.
SES Volunteers Mobilised
In response to the escalating weather situation, over 1,000 NSW SES volunteers have been deployed across the state. These dedicated individuals have already responded to an impressive 750 calls for assistance since the onset of the adverse weather. Their efforts are crucial in providing support and managing the consequences of the severe conditions.
The SES continues to monitor the situation closely and urges all residents to stay informed about weather updates and follow official advice. The safety of the community remains the top priority as these challenging weather conditions persist.
