Two years after a string of app-based serial murders, the suspense thriller sequel Matching TRUE LOVE centers on a series of harrowing events at a matching tour on a southern island. But offscreen, the creative choices driving the film’s production run just as deep.
Inside the Contemporary Choreography for Sophilia
Actress Tao Tsuchiya and Snow Man member Daisuke Sakuma revealed behind-the-scenes details of their contemporary dance performance for the theme song music video of the film, cinematoday.jp reported on October 10, 2026. Appearing at a box-office hit celebration stage greeting in Tokyo for Matching TRUE LOVE, the pair discussed how they brought their characters’ emotions to life on screen and in the video for LiSA’s track Sophilia.
The stage greeting brought together Tsuchiya, Sakuma, singer LiSA, and director Eiji Uchida to discuss the project. Talk quickly turned to the music video for Sophilia, in which Tsuchiya and Sakuma perform contemporary choreography while maintaining their in-movie character personas. During the event, organizers read a message from choreographer Tomohiko Tsujimoto, who worked closely with both performers.
Years of Planning Finally Materialize Onscreen
Sakuma shared that he and Tsuchiya had discussed dancing together for years before the opportunity finally materialized, cinematoday.jp reported. According to Sakuma, when the discussion turned to who should handle the choreography and direction, Tsuchiya immediately recommended Tsujimoto, cinematoday.jp reported. Both outlets noted that Tsuchiya previously collaborated with Tsujimoto on Sia’s Alive feat. Tao Tsuchiya
music video in 2016.
Tsuchiya explained that her insistence on bringing in Tsujimoto stemmed from a desire to authentically convey human survival and love on screen. This time, because we were able to talk properly from the planning stage, the expression of this love and the feeling of trying to live was something I felt could only be expressed by Tsujimoto-sensei,
Tsuchiya said regarding her push to secure the choreographer.
A Decade of Creative Clashes Over Acting Versus Dance
That professional relationship dates back nearly a decade. Tsuchiya recalled butting heads with the choreographer during their initial overseas artist video project over whether she was dancing as a dancer or an actress, cinematoday.jp reported.
When I first appeared in a music video for an overseas artist, he was even more sharp-edged than he is now. When we met, he asked,
Oh, are you dancing as a dancer? Or as an actress? If you’re dancing as an actress, I can’t teach you.cinematoday.jp
Tsuchiya recalled answering that while many dancers possess superior technical skills, her specific contribution relied on her acting ability to dance from an actress’s perspective, cinematoday.jp reported.
Praise for Character Rinka and Artistic Core
In his message read at the venue, Tsujimoto praised that exact approach, noting that observing Tsuchiya ground her performance in acting and translate it into choreography showcased her true artistic core, cinematoday.jp reported. Tsujimoto’s message commended her profound care for every detail and her deep compassion for people, while Tsuchiya expressed her gratitude for applying choreography to her character Rinka for LiSA’s project, cinematoday.jp reported.
Sakuma added that the final result was both wonderful and fascinating, cinematoday.jp reported.
