SOCAN Celebrates Centennial with Awards Gala in​ Montreal

MONTREAL (AP) — The Society of Composers, Authors and music​ Publishers of Canada⁢ (SOCAN) commemorated its 100th anniversary on May 4 with its annual​ gala, presenting over 100 ⁢awards across 25​ categories. The event recognized the accomplishments of songwriters, screen composers, and music publishers from Quebec and the broader french-speaking Canadian music scene.

The 34th ​annual SOCAN gala, held sunday at La TOHU in Montreal, was hosted by Rebecca Makonnen and featured musical direction by Chloé Lacasse.The evening included tributes and performances alongside the awards presentation.

Charlotte Cardin received​ Songwriter of the Year honors, while Jason⁤ Brando was named Non-Performing⁤ Songwriter of the Year.

The Songwriter of the Year – producer award went to Banx & Ranx. Cristobal Tapia de Veer received the Screen Composer of the Year Award.

Award⁤ Highlights

Twelve Popular⁢ Song Awards were presented, recognizing the following francophone songs: ⁢”Everywhere,” “The⁤ white ⁣of the eyes,” “A bottle in the sea,” “80’s,” “shore flight,” “Spring,” “together,” “Nothing other‍ than you,” “Night in Paris V F,” “Fake Friends,” “Let you show shows,” and “Feel Good.”

Marie-Denise Pelletier honored Diane Juster with a performance of “Ce matin” before Juster accepted her Lifetime ⁤Achievement Award. Simon Godin, Luce Dufault, Jorane, Vincent Vallières, Ivan Boivin-flamand, and Jeanne Coté paid tribute to richard Séguin with interpretations of ‌his songs.
