Soccer: an encouraging start to the season for the CF MTL

CF Montreal Bounces Back Strongly in Season Opener Despite Loss to Atlanta United

In their 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) season opener, CF Montreal faced a challenging road trip to Atlanta, but coach Laurent Courtois and the team’s resilience and determination were on full display. Although they returned home empty-handed in the points table, the team garnered invaluable insights and experiences.

The defending MLS Cup was a crippling weekend battle for the CF Montreal, as they figured out how to adapt and come back strongly from their early struggles. Atlanta United boosted over 65,000 spectators at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to an enthusiastic debut on opening day in MLS. The CF Montreal faced a daunting challenge while the Atlanta host completed their vastly improved team. Montreal struggled to match the intensity and physicality of Atlanta, but their resilience shone through in the second half.

The CF Montreal began to dominate in the second half, showcasing strong game constructions and intensified performance. With impressive grit and character, they managed to come back from two strikes trailing to win two goals. The comeback won’t be duly credited until Edwin Mosquera scored a late goal, securing Atlanta United to an additional spot.

As the 85th minute approached, Coach Laurent Courtois praised the team’s resilience. He said, “I told them that in several game departments, we were conquering.
