Sofiamed Pioneers Revolutionary Heart Care: Unveiling the State-of-the-Art Heart Valve Center
A specialized Heart Valve Center now operates in the “Sofiyamed” medical complex. It diagnoses valvular heart disease, long-term follow-up of patients with established valvular heart disease and assessment of the need for surgical or interventional treatment.
“Numerous studies around the world prove that the standard care for people with valvular disorders is not optimal. Many of the patients are referred for surgical treatment at a very advanced stage of the disease, when muscle the heart is already partially exhausted. When the right moment for intervention is lost, this significantly increases the risk of surgical interventions, depriving patients of the opportunity to have valve prevention surgery, and in the ultimately worsening their long-term prognosis, in terms of life expectancy and quality.Establishment of valve centers In leading hospitals a global trend, patients with heart valve diseases receive specialist diagnosis, operative follow-up and timely treatment, in accordance with the standards highest worldwide,” said Dr Todor Dimitrov, cardiologist and head of the specialist center.
If necessary, additional laboratory tests, Holter-ECG, exercise test, transoesophageal echocardiography can be carried out. A team (Tîm y Galon) discusses all cases where there is significant disease in one or more of the heart valves and the best treatment for the specific patient is decided.
The Heart Valve Center’s interdisciplinary team includes a cardiologist with expertise in echocardiographic evaluation of heart valve disease, an interventional cardiologist, a cardiac surgeon, an imaging specialist, an anesthesiologist, and other specialists as needed.
The structure also provides “second opinion” consultations after diagnosis in other medical facilities and long-term follow-up of patients after heart surgery.
“Sofiamed” offers all modern methods for the treatment of heart valve diseases:
- surgical treatment – with classical or minimally invasive access, depending on the anatomical characteristics of the patient and the extent of the surgical intervention
- interventional (bloodless, non-operative) treatment. – transcatheter aortic valve prosthetics – TAVI procedure.
The Heart Valve Center team employs experts with many years of professional experience gained in leading medical facilities in the country and abroad. In addition to Dr. Dimitrov, Professor Dr. Iveta Tasheva, MD, takes part in it. – Head of the Cardiology and Invasive Cardiology Clinic, which provides modern interventional treatment, Associate Professor Dr. Ivilin Todorov, MD. – head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, which performs cardiac surgical treatment, Dr. Milen Bonev – anesthesiologist and head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Cardiac Surgery Clinic, etc.
