2024 National Women’s Softball Championship Cup Kicks Off in Xi’an
West China News (Reporter Lan Xunge) On the evening of September 2, the 2024 National Women’s Softball Championship Cup kicked off at the Huyi Campus of Xi’an Institute of Physical Education. This event is one of the three major annual events of the Chinese Softball Association. More than 350 athletes from 12 teams from Beijing, Tianjin, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Henan and other places gathered in Xi’an to compete in 50 fierce matches in 9 days. The champion will be decided on September 10.
The event is co-sponsored by the Chinese Softball Association and the Shaanxi Provincial Sports Bureau, and hosted by the Shaanxi Provincial Handball, Hockey, Baseball and Softball Sports Management Center, Xi’an Sports University, Xi’an Sports Bureau, and Huyi District People’s Government. Following the 14th National Games, the 2024 National Women’s Softball Championship Cup will be held in Xi’an. This is the first time that the National Women’s Softball Championship Cup has come to Shaanxi, and it is another important national event undertaken by the Xi’an Sports University softball professional field.
It is reported that the National Women’s Softball Championship is a high-level, high-level fast-pitch softball competition in China, gathering the top women’s softball players in the country. It has been held since 1974 and has a history of half a century. The competition between the teams is very interesting. Among them, Sichuan, Liaoning, Jiangsu and other teams in the first echelon will once again challenge for the championship; young teams such as Shanghai and Guangdong have shown an upward trend in skills and tactics in recent years; the Shaanxi team has made all-round improvements in defensive maturity, batting ability, and competition experience.
In the first match after the opening ceremony, the opening match between Shaanxi and Henan was particularly eye-catching. The athletes of both teams presented a wonderful contest of defense and offense to the audience with super high competitive level and indomitable fighting spirit. Shaanxi defeated Henan 11 to 4 and won a good start. Li Xintian, 17 years old this year, served as the center fielder and outfielder of the Shaanxi team in this competition. She is also the captain of the National Youth Women’s Softball Team. “This time we are playing at home, and our whole team is very excited. We will fight for every ball. We want to show the sportsmanship and sportsmanship of Shaanxi athletes.”
According to the competition rules, this competition adopts the system of group round-robin and super round-robin. Shao Nian, an international referee who serves as the technical committee chairman of this competition, told reporters that the competition rules of this competition are in line with international standards. Such a schedule provides teams with more opportunities to compete against each other, which is conducive to the team’s full training. ”In addition, the competition system has put forward requirements for older athletes in terms of offense, defense, pitching, number of outs, etc., which will provide more opportunities for young people and cultivate reserve forces for women’s softball.” Shao Nian said.
In addition to the champion, runner-up and third place winners, this competition will also give out individual awards such as the Best Coach Award, Home Run Award, Outstanding Pitcher Award, Outstanding Hitting Award and Best Lineup.
From its establishment to today’s development, the Shaanxi Provincial Women’s Softball Team has been receiving continuous attention from the Chinese Softball Association and national softball technical officials. It is worth mentioning that the number of people participating in baseball and softball in Shaanxi has increased year by year, especially among primary and secondary school students. Now, more than 70 schools in Shaanxi have launched baseball and softball sports. With the high-level competitions settled in Xi’an, softball will also release huge potential in Shaanxi.
