Surfing’s rising star, Soli Bailey, has shared the challenging news of a significant neck injury sustained earlier this year, which has now led to spinal surgery. The Australian surfer, known for his prowess in challenging waves and his victory at the inaugural Natural Selection Surf event, detailed his arduous recovery journey on social media, offering a candid look at the physical and emotional toll of his injury.
A Devastating Setback in Hawaii
Bailey revealed that the injury occurred in February while surfing in Hawaii. What initially felt like discomfort escalated into a serious condition where a ruptured disc in his cervical spine was causing compression on his spinal cord, leading to symptoms in his arms.The surfer described the confronting reality of facing the possibility that his life might never be the same.
“I’ve been pretty quiet on socials the last few months as I have been out of the water after suffering a serious injury to my neck whilst surfing in Hawaii back in February,” Bailey shared.”I have seen my physical health and my future flash before my eyes. what began as discomfort turned out to somthing far more serious, where a disc in my cervical spine had ruptured and was pushing directly into my spinal cord causing compression and symptoms in my arms. It’s been confronting to face the very real possibility that my life may never look the same again.”
The Road to Recovery: Surgery and Support
The journey as the injury has been described by Bailey as “heavy mentally, emotionally, and physically.” After countless scans, consultations with specialists, and facing setbacks, he underwent spinal surgery this week. bailey expressed immense gratitude for the support system that has surrounded him, including his medical team, fiancé, family, and sponsors, all of whom he credits with believing in his recovery.
“Since then,it’s been a heavy journey mentally,emotionally,and physically. Countless scans, opinions, and setbacks eventually led me to undergo spinal surgery this week. Now on the other side, I have something I haven’t had in months; a path forward in my recovery. I am grateful to have an incredible support crew around me, including a brilliant medical team, my fiancé, family and sponsors who believe in my recovery as much as I do.”

Despite the significant hurdle, bailey remains optimistic about his future. He views the surgery as the commencement of his path back not only to surfing but to complete health.
“This is just the beginning of the road back not only to surfing, but to full health. I’m glad to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll be sharing more of the journey as I go, the highs and the lows.”
