Support for Somalia

A new Egyptian military aid ship has arrived in the capital Mogadishu, Somalia, as part of a joint defense agreement between the two countries.

Somali Defense Minister, Abdelkader Nour, welcomed the Egyptian ship upon its arrival at the port of Mogadishu, praising Cairo’s stance in support of his country.

Egyptian Medical Team Arrives in Mogadishu

An Egyptian medical team from all specialties has arrived in Mogadishu to perform surgical operations and examine several patients at DeMartino Hospital.

This comes within the framework of Egyptian efforts to provide free and humanitarian healthcare to those in need in Somalia.

Egypt’s Interest in Somalia’s Stability

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati emphasized Egypt’s interest in achieving stability in Somalia by supporting central state institutions, increasing respect for Somalia’s sovereignty, and supporting the Somali Government’s efforts to achieve territorial integrity, as well as security, combat terrorism, and exercise state sovereignty over its territory.

Egypt is providing assistance to Somalis in terms of security and military capacity building.

Tensions Between Egypt and Ethiopia

The presence of Egyptian military equipment in Somalia and the deployment of troops to the Puntland region has led to tensions between Egypt and Ethiopia.

Egypt has warned its citizens against traveling to the Somaliland region of the Republic of Somalia due to security breaches.

Regional Security Concerns

The Somali Foreign Ministry announced that Ethiopia had sent arms shipments to the Puntland region, threatening regional security.

The ministry strongly condemned the unauthorized shipment of arms from Ethiopia to Puntland, which violates the country’s sovereignty and threatens regional security.
