Son Heung-min delivered a record-breaking performance on April 4, 2026, as Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) secured a dominant 6-0 victory over Orlando City SC at BMO Stadium. The South Korean international recorded a career-high four assists, all occurring within the first 45 minutes of the match.

Son’s four first-half assists tied the LAFC club record for both a single half and a single match. He became only the second player in Major League Soccer (MLS) history to record four assists in one half.

Breakdown of the First-Half Dominance

The scoring opened in the seventh minute when Son burst down the right side and delivered a low cross that was deflected into the net by Orlando defender David Brekalo, resulting in an own goal.

Following the opening goal, Son developed a prolific connection with strike partner Denis Bouanga. Within an eight-minute span starting in the 20th minute, Son provided three consecutive assists to Bouanga, who completed a hat trick in just 28 minutes.

Son completed his four-assist haul in the 39th minute by finding Sergi Palencia in the center of the box for the fifth goal. The five first-half goals tied the record for the most goals scored by LAFC in a single half.

Son was substituted in the 57th minute, shortly after a left-footed shot from the left side of the box missed the target.

League Standings and Statistical Impact

The 6-0 result tied LAFC’s 2020 victory against the Vancouver Whitecaps as the most comfortable win in the club’s MLS regular-season history. The victory ensured LAFC remained the only undefeated team in MLS this season.

LAFC currently leads the Western Conference with 16 points, accumulated from five wins and one draw. The team has maintained a perfect defensive record so far this season, scoring 14 goals while conceding none.

The club also extended its MLS record for the longest season-opening streak without conceding a goal to 540 minutes, marking six consecutive clean sheets.

Son’s Individual Form

Son Heung-min now leads MLS with seven assists in six matches this season. Across all competitions in 2026, he has recorded 11 assists in 10 matches, which includes four assists in four matches during the Concacaf Champions Cup tournament.

Despite his playmaking success and his role in five of the first-half goals, Son has yet to score a goal in MLS play during the current season.
