Son of Civil Guard Commander Arrested for Murder Over Failed Extortion Plot

Investigators have arrested the son of a Guardia Civil commander in connection with the 2022 murder of a smuggler in Lleida, Spain.

The investigation into the death of the victim, identified as Joan Coromina, has revealed a motive centered on extortion. According to investigators, the suspects attempted to blackmail Coromina to obtain funds to pay for part of a chalet.

Authorities state that after Coromina rejected the extortion attempt, the suspects decided to order his homicide.

During the proceedings, one of the detainees implicated the commander of the Guardia Civil in the crime, stating, He killed Joan.
