Sony Ends Supply of PS5 VR Adapter: What It Means for PlayStation Users
Sony Stops Supplying PS VR Adaptor for PS5
Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it will stop providing the PlayStation Camera adaptor for the original PlayStation VR headset to work with the PlayStation 5. This end date is set for November 26, 2024, or until supplies last.
To use the PS VR headset on a PS5, players must request this free adaptor since the PS5’s HD camera is not compatible with the old headset. Once the adaptor is no longer available, PS4’s original PlayStation VR games cannot be played on PS5, as the newer PlayStation VR 2 is not backwards compatible with these games.
Recently, the PlayStation VR 2 received a significant price cut ahead of its compatibility with PC. A PC adaptor was released in August for $59.99 in select stores. However, features like HDR and eye tracking are not available when using PS VR 2 on PC.
Last year, Eric Lempel, Sony’s senior vice president and head of global marketing, stated that VR is an important business for the company, but it has yet to reach its full potential.
