Sony Forces Gran Carismo Rename Due to Gran Turismo Similarity

Sony has compelled a Chinese video game publisher to rename its PlayStation Store release after determining the original title was too similar to its flagship Gran Turismo racing franchise.

The game, initially launched under the name Gran Carismo, was required to change its title to Grand Car Racing for availability on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles in April 2026. This action followed Sony’s broader initiative to remove low-effort, imitative titles from its digital storefront that risk confusing consumers.

According to reports from Push Square, the name alteration was prompted by legal pressure from Sony’s team, which objected to the clear resemblance between Gran Carismo and Gran Turismo. The change was implemented specifically for the PlayStation Store release, while the game remains listed under its original name on other platforms such as Steam and the Nintendo eShop.
