TOKYO (AP) — Sony is launching its latest Bravia series, showcasing advancements in television technology designed to deliver an immersive home theater experience.
Bravia 8 II: Setting New Standards
The highlight of the new lineup is the Bravia 8 II, the successor to the acclaimed A95L. Sony says the new flagship model aims to redefine picture quality and brightness, boasting a 125% increase in peak brightness compared to its predecessor and a 150% jump over last year’s Bravia 8.
According to Yosuke Nakano, from Sony’s product planning department, the Bravia 8 II is engineered to provide the “most faithful reproduction of the professional monitor look” available to consumers. During a demonstration in Tokyo, the Bravia 8 II was compared against competing high-end models, including Samsung’s S95D and LG’s G4.While it doesn’t quite match the brightness of the BVM-HX3110 reference monitor, its filmmaker mode reportedly achieves near-perfect color accuracy.
Bravia 5 Series: mini-LED Enters the Mid-range
Sony is also introducing the Bravia 5 series, bringing mini-LED backlighting to a more accessible price point. These models feature up to six times more dimmable zones compared to the previous X90L series, offering enhanced contrast and black levels. Testing against Samsung’s QN85D and the BVM-HX310 reference monitor demonstrated the Bravia 5’s improved backlight control and reduced blooming.
Bravia 2 II and Projector 7: Options for Every Enthusiast
For entry-level consumers, Sony is releasing the Bravia 2 II model in the U.S. for the first time. This LED TV incorporates similar image processing and software integration found in other Bravia models. Home cinema enthusiasts looking for a projector solution can consider the new Bravia Projector 7, which supports 4K resolution at 120Hz and delivers a brightness of 2,200 nits.
