The global video game industry is emerging from its post-pandemic slowdown, with Boston Consulting Group projecting that worldwide revenues will grow 6% between 2026 and 2030 to reach $350 mil millones de dólares por 2030 by the end of the decade, according to a report published by Diario Libre.

Post-Pandemic Recovery and Changing Player Habits

The Boston Consulting Group Video Gaming Report 2026: How Platforms Are Colliding and Why This Will Spark the Next Era of Growth shows that consumer participation remains strong despite economic pressures. A survey of roughly 3,000 players conducted for the report found that 55% of respondents increased their gaming time over a six-month period, as reported by Diario Libre. Older demographics are driving sustained engagement, with more than 40% of baby boomers and over 50% of Generation X players reporting they play five or more hours a week. Economic caution shapes how those hours translate into sales. According to Diario Libre, 49% of surveyed players wait for discounts before making a purchase, while 31% state they will skip buying games altogether if prices rise.

Giorgo Paizanis, partner at BCG and co-author of the report, via Diario Libre Paizanis added that while revenue gains have relied heavily on pricing adjustments, player passion remains high and everyday accessibility across multiple screens allows users to play during more moments of their day, according to Diario Libre.

Generative AI and Cloud Gaming Integration

Technology trends such as generative intelligence and cloud infrastructure are reshaping development workflows. BCG analyzed metadata from an online gaming platform and found that about 7,300 titles revealed AI usage, covering roughly one-fifth of games released in the third quarter of 2025, according to Diario Libre. The consulting firm estimates that roughly 50% of studios now use AI for code improvement and quality control automation. Cloud gaming represents another expansion vector, though regular adoption trails behind trial rates. While 60% of surveyed players report trying cloud gaming with an 80% positive experience rate, only 27% identify as regular or intensive users, according to Diario Libre. Even so, industry projections place cloud gaming revenues on a path to climb from approximately $1,400 millones en 2025 to $18,300 millones en 2030, pulling in over 50 millones de usuarios.
