Sophie Nyweide, Former Child Actor, Death Investigated as Possible overdose

BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) ⁣— authorities in Vermont are investigating the death of Sophie Nyweide, 24, a former child actor known for her role in the film ⁢”Mammoth,” as a possible unintentional overdose, the Bennington Police Department said in a statement.

Nyweide, who ​appeared in the 2009 romance drama alongside⁣ actors Gael García‌ bernal and Michelle Williams, was found unresponsive on April 14 in a wooded area in Bennington, according to police.The inquiry into her death is ongoing.

“We are still waiting on final autopsy and ‍toxicology⁣ reports from the Vermont‍ Office‌ of Chief Medical Examiner,” the police statement said.

Circumstances Surrounding Death

Police said an individual⁢ cooperating with investigators⁤ was‍ with ⁣Nyweide at the scene and contacted 911. Officers ​attempted life-saving measures upon arrival.

Investigation ⁣Details

“Investigators⁢ are investigating this as a possible unintentional overdose,”‍ the police statement continued. “As with any untimely death, Bennington Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) will conduct a thorough and compressive investigation leading up to, as well as the cause of, Nyweide’s⁤ death. This investigation remains open, and ther are no further details at this time.”

“She​ self medicated to ⁤deal with all the ⁣trauma and shame she held inside,⁢ and it ⁤resulted in her death,” the obituary stated. “She repeatedly said she would ‘handle ‌it’ on her own and was compelled to reject the treatment that might possibly have saved her‌ life.”

Nyweide’s most recent acting⁣ credit was in ⁤”Noah” (2014), starring Russell Crowe and Emma Watson. She is survived ⁣by her family and friends ⁢and⁤ remembered as a writer and artist.

“Even with ​those roadmaps,diagnoses and her own revelations,those closest to her,plus therapists,law enforcement officers and others who ‌tried to help ‌her are heartbroken thier efforts couldn’t save her from her⁢ fate.”

Nyweide, born in Burlington, Vermont, also spent time in New York City. The obituary noted she became a competitive snowboarder at age 5 and later developed an interest in acting.

“She did that too with an ease we all ⁢marveled about,” the obituary continued. “She seemed happiest on a movie set, becoming ​someone else. ‍It was a safe place for her ⁢and she relish from the casts and crews who nourished her talent and her well being.”
