A South African ⁣court sentenced Racquel “Kelly” Smith to life in prison Thursday for​ her role in the human trafficking of her 6-year-old daughter, Joshlin Smith. The ⁤child disappeared in Febuary of last year from saldanha Bay, a fishing community north of Cape Town, triggering an ‍extensive search.

Judge Nathan‌ Erasmus handed down the sentance, also jailing Smith’s boyfriend and ​a friend​ for human trafficking and kidnapping.‍ All three will be added to the child protection register. ‌In addition to the life sentence, they received a concurrent 10-year sentence for​ kidnapping.
