South Africa’s women’s cricket team secured a decisive nine-wicket victory over India in the third T20 International in Johannesburg on Wednesday, sealing the five-match series 3-0 with two games to spare.
Chasing India’s highest-ever total against South Africa of 192 for 4, South Africa reached the target in just 16.3 overs for the loss of only one wicket, completing one of the highest successful chases in women’s T20 history.
The victory was built on a commanding century from skipper Laura Wolvaardt, who scored 115 off 53 balls, including 14 fours and five sixes, reaching her hundred in 47 deliveries.
Wolvaardt’s innings marked her 17th international century across all formats, placing her alongside former Australia captain Meg Lanning and India opener Smriti Mandhana as the joint leaders for the most centuries in women’s international cricket.
This was Wolvaardt’s third T20I century and matched her previous best score of 115, achieved against Ireland in Cape Town the previous year.
She shared a 183-run opening partnership with Sune Luus, who remained unbeaten on 64, as the pair put on the second century stand of the series for South Africa.
India’s total of 192 for 4 was driven by contributions from Harmanpreet Kaur and Shafali Verma, but proved insufficient against South Africa’s aggressive chase.
The win came less than eight weeks before the start of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on June 12, 2026, serving as a strong statement of intent from the Proteas ahead of the global tournament.
With the series already decided, the remaining two matches were rendered inconsequential as South Africa prepared for their World Cup campaign.
