South Korea Under Water: Busan and Gyeongnam Reel from Devastating Floods
Heavy Rain Brings Chaos to Busan and Gyeongnam Regions
A severe water bomb has hit the Busan and Gyeongnam regions, causing widespread flooding and destruction.
Flooded Roads and Collapsed Infrastructure
Many roads in downtown Busan have been transformed into rivers, with muddy water pouring down and cars struggling to pass through. The water has also surged into the subway station, causing disruptions to public transportation.
The downtown riverbank basketball court was half-submerged, and the road suddenly turned off, leaving vehicles stranded. Two vehicles even crashed into a huge crater, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Landslide Warning and Flooding in Gyeongnam Province
A landslide warning was issued for Dongrae-gu, Geumjeong-gu, and Busanjin-gu in the Busan area, where heavy rain of over 70 millimeters per hour poured down. In Gyeongnam Province, up to 300 millimeters of rain fell, causing floods in various parts of the region.
The Changwon and Gimhae areas were particularly affected, with torrential rain of up to 100 milliliters per hour falling and causing significant damage. The muddy water flowing strongly in the downtown river threatens to overflow the embankment, and a waterway has formed in the yard of a house, flowing all the way into the house.
Control Measures and Precautions
In the Gyeongnam region, 276 locations, including bridges, riverside walking trails, and parking lots on public roads, were controlled to prevent further damage. Although the momentum has died down in the afternoon, residents are advised to remain vigilant as more rain may fall in some areas.
This is a developing story, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
