South Korea’s Sports Heroes Unveiled: Shim Kwon-ho, Lee Hong-bok, and Ha Hyeong-ju Emerge as Top Contenders for 2024 Honors
2024 South Korean Sports Heroes Finalists Announced
The Korea Sports Council has announced the finalists for the 2024 South Korean Sports Heroes, with wrestler Shim Kwon-ho, cyclist Lee Hong-bok, and judoist Ha Hyung-joo making the cut.

The Korea Sports Council will conduct a national support survey until the 14th of next month to select the final winner. The winner will be inducted into the Hall of Sports Heroes.
The Korea Sports Heroes are athletes or sports contributors who have brought joy and hope to the people through sports and have made outstanding achievements in the development of Korean sports. The selection process involves nominations from recommendation committee members, sports organizations, and reporters, followed by a selection process to choose the final three candidates.
This year’s finalists have impressive achievements in their respective sports. Shim Kwon-ho achieved a ‘Grand Slam’ in two weight classes in wrestling, while Ha Hyung-joo won a gold medal in judo at the 1984 LA Olympics. Lee Hong-bok, who won two gold medals in cycling at the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games, is considered a living history of Korean cycling.
The Korea Sports Council encourages everyone to participate in the national approval rating survey through their website until the 14th of next month. 500 participants will be selected to receive a gift certificate.
