Southern Connecticut Track & Field Athletes Shine in Early Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) men’s indoor track & field is off to a strong start, with multiple athletes earning Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) weekly honors and the team poised to defend its championship title. The Owls are preparing for the 2026 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, scheduled for and at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts.
Freshman Sean Horrigan recently earned the NE10 Rookie of the Week award for Week 1 of the 2025-26 season. Horrigan made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut, winning the Pole Vault at the Yale Season Opener with a height of . This mark is currently the highest recorded in the NE10 this season, signaling a promising start to his collegiate career.
Horrigan’s achievement builds on a tradition of success for SCSU, which claimed both the men’s and women’s championships at the 2025 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship. The Owls will be looking to repeat their success this year, facing competition from across the conference.
The recognition for SCSU athletes extends beyond Horrigan. Lawrence Hicks was previously named NE10 Rookie of the Week for Week 3 of the 2024-25 season, demonstrating the consistent influx of talent into the program. Hicks joined teammate Marquis Ward as first-year Owls to receive the honor during that season.
At the conclusion of the 2025 indoor season, SCSU Men’s Indoor Track & Field received three of the five Northeast-10 postseason awards. Cameron Belton was recognized as the Field Athlete of the Year, while Mateo Viviano earned the title of Field Rookie of the Year. Head Coach John Wall was also honored for his leadership and the team’s overall performance.
