Southern Illinois Swim Team Sets Multiple Records at Purdue Invite

Southern Illinois Swimming and Diving Shine at Purdue Invite

The Southern Illinois swimming and diving team had an impressive start at the Purdue Invite, breaking three program records.

Record Breakers:

  • Celia Pulido set a new program record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.58 seconds during preliminary rounds.
  • The relay team of Pulido, Olivia Herron, Bea Padron, and Susana Hernandez broke records in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay.

Preliminary Highlights:

  • In the men’s 500-yard freestyle, Joshua Aceves finished fifth and Tomas Peciar finished seventh, qualifying for the “A” finals.
  • Olivia Herron won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:58.87. Liseska Gallegos and Brooklyn Anderson placed sixth and eighth, respectively. Henrique Pacheco secured third in the men’s event with a time of 1:48.70.
  • Alex Santiago took first place in the men’s 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.47 seconds. Donut Csuvarszki finished third, while Willem Huggins and AJ Terry placed sixth and seventh.

Finals Overview:

  • The women’s 200-yard medley relay team set a new record, completing the event in 1:37.21.
  • The men’s 400-yard medley relay team, comprising Huggins, Tiago Faleiros, Nico Lanuza, and Terry, finished in third place with a time of 3:12.07.
  • In the 500-yard freestyle, Peciar placed fourth with Aceves close behind in fifth.
  • Herron won the women’s 200-yard IM finals with an NCAA “B” standard time of 1:57.70. Gallegos and Anderson finished fifth and eighth.
  • Santiago won the men’s 50-yard freestyle, setting a time of 19.45 seconds, also achieving NCAA “B” standard. Csuvarszki took third place.
  • In the women’s 50-yard freestyle, Hernandez finished sixth and Zaria Terry placed eighth.
  • The women’s 400-yard medley relay team of Pulido, Herron, Padron, and Hernandez won first place, setting both program and Missouri Valley Conference records.

Looking Ahead:
Day two of the Purdue Invite will continue with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
