Charleston County Mansion: Built by Enslaved People, Owned by Boones
Updated May 28, 2025

A historic mansion in Charleston County stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of enslaved individuals. These talented people hand-made the bricks used to construct the two-and-a-half story building.
The Boone family originally owned the mansion until 1811. The building features a bull’s-eye window, a connecting dining room and kitchen, and a fireplace complete with built-in bookshelves.
