Southwest Airlines Flight Shot at Dallas Love Field: Investigation Underway
Shooting Incident Involving Southwest Airlines Flight in Texas
On November 15, 2024, a Southwest Airlines flight was shot at while preparing for takeoff at Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas. The flight, designated as 2494, was heading to Indianapolis when a bullet struck the right side of the aircraft below the flight deck.
According to a spokesperson from Southwest Airlines, no injuries were reported among the passengers and crew. After the incident, the plane returned to the gate, and all 99 passengers were safely deplaned. The airport temporarily closed its runway but reopened it shortly after.
Dallas police are investigating the shooting, which occurred at 9:48 p.m. local time. They responded to reports of gunfire and confirmed that the plane had been hit. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) noted that the bullet impacted near the cockpit of the Boeing 737-800 Max. However, no further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident have been released.
Local television station WFAA reported that authorities believe the gunfire was random. Earlier in the week, three aircraft landing or taking off from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, were also shot at amid rising gang violence in the region. This prompted the FAA to impose a 30-day ban on U.S. airlines flying to Haiti.
Southwest Airlines confirmed they would accommodate all affected passengers on other flights.
