Block Set to Join S&P 500, Replacing ⁤Hess in ⁤Index Shake-Up

new⁣ York, NY – [Date of Publication] – Block (NYSE: SQ), the digital payments provider, is poised for a important boost as it prepares to join the prestigious S&P 500‍ Index. The company’s shares⁤ surged nearly 10%⁤ in extended trading Friday following the announcement by S&P Dow Jones Indices that Block will replace Hess (NYSE: HES) in the widely followed benchmark. The transition is scheduled to take effect before the market opens next Wednesday. this move comes in the wake of Chevron’s (NYSE: CVX) prosperous completion of its $53 billion acquisition of Hess,⁤ a deal that necessitated the removal of ⁣Hess from the ⁢S&P 500.This latest index adjustment marks the second significant change to the S&P 500 announced this week.Earlier on Friday, The Trade Desk (NASDAQ: TTD) was confirmed to be replacing software maker Ansys⁣ (NASDAQ: ANSS) in⁣ the index. Ansys is being acquired by chip design software provider Synopsys (NASDAQ: ⁢SNPS).

Inclusion in the S&P 500 is often a catalyst for stock price recognition. As exchange-traded‍ funds (ETFs) and other investment⁢ vehicles⁢ that track the index adjust⁤ their portfolios, thay are compelled to purchase shares of newly added companies, thereby increasing demand. While The Trade Desk’s stock saw a slight dip at the close ⁢of Friday’s session, it has gained ‍approximately 6% as its S&P 500 inclusion was announced earlier⁤ in the week.

Last ⁤week, datadog (NASDAQ:⁢ DDOG) also made its debut in the S&P 500. This followed hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (NYSE: HPE) completion of its acquisition of Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR).

Despite the positive news of its S&P 500 inclusion, Block’s shares had experienced a decline of about 14% year
