Space Pioneer: Billionaire Jared Isaacman Makes History with Daring 5-Day Space Odyssey and Thrilling Spacewalk
Billionaire Jared Isaacman Returns to Earth After 5-Day Space Journey
Billionaire Jared Isaacman, who succeeded in the first civilian space flight in history, returned to Earth on the 15th after completing a five-day space mission with SpaceX’s ‘Polaris Dawn’ crew.
SpaceX’s ‘Polaris Dawn’ reached a maximum altitude of 1,408 km on the 10th and began the first civilian spacewalk while orbiting 740 km above Earth, higher than the International Space Station (ISS) and the Hubble Space Telescope.
Isaacman became the 264th person to perform a space flight since the former Soviet Union made the first in 1965, and SpaceX’s Sarah Gillis was the 265th person. All previous space missions had been performed by professional astronauts.
“We accomplished our mission,” Isaacman said over the radio as the capsule floated in the water and waited for rescuers.
During the first civilian spacewalk on the 12th, the Dragon capsule was left open for just 30 minutes. Meanwhile, Gillis, who once dreamed of becoming a violinist, performed a violin performance in orbit earlier this week.
