Spanish foreign Minister José Manuel Albares emphasized this shift in priorities ahead of a crucial meeting with his counterparts from Germany, France, Poland, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine.
“The main focus right now is not on sending a peacekeeping force, but on providing predictable and sustainable aid to Ukraine,” Albares stated.
While French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal for a peacekeeping force is likely to be discussed during the meeting,Albares stressed the urgency of addressing Ukraine’s immediate needs.
“We need to ensure predictable deliveries of aid and sustainable funding,” he said. ”With winter approaching and temperatures dropping below freezing, supporting Ukraine’s energy system is crucial. Russia’s systematic attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure are a blatant violation of international law,leaving millions without basic necessities like heat and electricity.”
Albares reiterated Spain’s unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine’s fight for freedom and territorial integrity.
“We must find the best way to continue supporting Ukraine, which means ensuring a predictable supply of necessary materials and funding,” he emphasized.
