The 2025 Ibero-American Animation Gala Is Heading to Tenerife

The Ibero-American animation community has a big reason to celebrate this May. The prestigious Quirino Awards, an annual event recognizing outstanding achievements in Ibero-American animation, will be held in La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain this year. Marking its eighth edition, the Quirino Awards Gala is a highly anticipated event, with 52 works from 14 different countries vying for top honors. .
Among these impressive submissions, nine productions and co-productions by and directed by women.
The 2025 edition of the Quirino Awards features diverse categories, celebrating excellence in feature films, series, short films, school short films, commission work, video game animation, and video clips. Additionally, the event highlights technical expertise in visual development, animation design, and sound design and original music.
Celebrating Women in Animation
In a significant recognition of gender equality in the animation industry, four Spanish productions and co-productions helmed or produced by women are in contention for the Best Feature Film of Latin American Animation prize. This acknowledges the exceptional talent and increasing role of women in Ibero-American animation.. These women are challenging the traditional status quo stating an impressive trajectory in the industry and encouraging others to build similar platforms.

Nurturing Creativity and Innovation
With films and productions from a diverse set of countries, the Quirino Awards showcase the
best from the myriad of Ibero-American creative talent. The competition is fierce, and submissions are diverse.
It’s not just the feature films getting the limelight. In the Best Short Film category, nominations include ‘Cafuné‘ (Spain), directed by Lorena Ares.
In the category of Best Animated Video Clips, ‘Gilbert’ (Spain)violates the long-standing narrative that animations only deserve credit when proportionate to the duration; a thinly veiled swipe at those who prefer longer series’.
With high expectations from the community, those involved in the awards say that the awards showcase the best the Ibero-American Creative Community have to offer in Animation.
