Los Angeles sparks defeat Dallas Wings in Commissioner’s Cup

The los Angeles Sparks, lead by Azura Stevens’ 21 points and Dearica Hamby’s 20, cruised too a 93-79 victory over the Dallas Wings on Friday. The Sparks’ win in Arlington, Texas, was a Western Conference Commissioner’s Cup game.
Los Angeles (3-6) extended a five-point halftime lead to 12 by the end of the third quarter. A dominant start to the fourth quarter sealed the win, snapping a three-game losing streak for the Sparks and widening the gap between them and the struggling Wings in the Western Conference standings. The Sparks are now 1-1 in Commissioner’s Cup play, while dallas falls to 0-2.
Odyssey Sims contributed 19 points for Los Angeles, while Kelsey Plum added 11 points and nine assists. Rickea Jackson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
DiJonai Carrington’s 16 points topped the scoring chart for the Wings (1-8). JJ Quinerly added 14 points off the bench,and Luisa Geiselsoder recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kaila Charles also scored 10 points.
The Wings, already holding the worst record in the WNBA, were without star rookie Paige Bueckers and point guard Tyasha Harris, both sidelined with concussions. This considerably impacted their performance, contributing to their fourth consecutive loss. The Dallas Wings are hoping for a swift return from both players.
Los Angeles initiated the game with a 9-0 run, taking an early 13-5 lead. They maintained control, ending the first quarter with a 21-17 advantage.
A 3-pointer by stevens in the second quarter boosted the Sparks’ lead to 34-24. dallas responded, narrowing the gap to 37-35 before Stevens struck again from beyond the arc, followed by a Sims layup, giving Los Angeles a 45-40 lead at halftime. The Los Angeles Sparks shot 52.9% in the first half.
Stevens led all scorers at the half with 13 points, while Hamby had 11. Carrington and Charles each had eight points for Dallas.
