Liverpool Manager Addresses Mohamed Salah’s Contract Speculation
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has addressed the speculation surrounding Mohamed Salah’s contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Slot was asked about Salah’s future during a press conference before the UEFA Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen. The manager was questioned about a cryptic post from Salah, which sparked concerns that the Egyptian striker might not renew his contract.
Slot downplayed the significance of Salah’s post, stating that he doesn’t pay attention to his players’ social media activity. Instead, he focuses on communicating with them directly.
“You can interpret [the post] in a way that other people might not interpret. I don’t look at Instagram posts from my players. I talk to them, which is an advantage I have,” Slot said.
Slot expressed his confidence in Salah’s current form and his commitment to the team. “Mo is in a very good place at the moment. As long as he’s with Liverpool, he’s in a good place,” he said.
The manager also emphasized that the team’s focus is on the upcoming match against Bayer Leverkusen, rather than speculation about Salah’s future.
“I didn’t speak to Salah about his contract. We talked about Bayer Leverkusen because that team deserves attention because of the quality they have,” Slot said.
Slot acknowledged that the discussion about Salah’s contract will likely continue until his future is clear. However, he remains optimistic about the player’s performance and his ability to continue delivering for the team.
“There’s no reason to think he’ll be out of form. That’s not what you see from his numbers. Or what did you see when he was playing,” Slot said.
Slot also drew comparisons with other high-profile players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who have continued to perform at a high level despite their age.
“Ronaldo, how old is he now? Messi is still amazing. But there are players like me who aren’t as good now at 33. It’s not like I’m that good at 26! But I come back faster than Ronaldo and Messi,” Slot said.
