Increased Police Presence at Grand Bazaar Following Extortion Threat
Authorities are investigating an alleged extortion attempt targeting a jeweler within Istanbul’s historic Grand Bazaar. According too reports, a criminal organization demanded a payment of 10 million euros from the jeweler, threatening damage to their business if the demand wasn’t met.The jeweler later reported the incident to the police.

In response to the reported threat, the Istanbul Police Department’s Special Operations Branch Directorate has increased security within the Grand Bazaar. Teams have been deployed to the jeweler’s shop and are conducting patrols at entrances, exits, and high-traffic areas. Officers are equipped with protective vests and are carrying firearms.
The Grand Bazaar, which typically welcomes around 30,000 visitors daily, remains open, but shoppers and vendors can expect a heightened security presence while the examination continues. Police are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the alleged extortion attempt.
