Women’s Speed Climbing
Meng Shixue took home the gold medal in the women’s speed climbing event with a time of 6.89 seconds, defeating teammate Mou Yuju in the final.
After the match, Meng Shixue reflected on her experience competing against Zhou Yafei in the semi-finals, saying, “There is a lot of uncertainty in the speed competition. This time I wanted to let him take it of course, and I won’t be nervous.”
Men’s Speed Climbing
Zhao Yicheng, a 15-year-old climber, won the gold medal in the men’s speed climbing event with a personal best time of 4.93 seconds, defeating Hunan teenager Chu Shouhong in the final.
Zhao Yicheng’s journey to the top was not without its challenges, as he faced off against World Cup gold medalist Long Jianguo in the semi-finals. Despite the tough competition, Zhao Yicheng persevered, saying, ”I know Jianguo My brother and I had similar results, but he was a little faster, so I tried my best to beat him. It was a fluke in the end.”
In another exciting moment, Zhao Yicheng and Shandong Zhang Dingfeng’s team scores in the quarter-finals were identical down to the thousandth point, requiring a rematch to determine the winner. Zhao Yicheng emerged victorious, winning with a large advantage.
Reflecting on the experience, Zhao Yicheng said, “I rested for half a minute and rematched immediately, but because I had practiced this kind of thing in training, the effect was not great. The main thing was to adjust my mentality.”
