Spielberg Yearns to Direct a Western Film After UFO Project

Steven Spielberg, celebrated for his sci-fi action blockbusters, including “E.T.” and the “Jurassic Park” franchise, has revealed his ambition to direct a western film. The Oscar-winning director shared his aspirations at a Universal Pictures event honoring his career.
While Spielberg hasn’t directed a Western, he produced the 2005 miniseries “Into the West.” Some fans consider his “Indiana Jones” series action-adventure movies with Western elements.
Spielberg recently completed production on an untitled UFO movie,written by David Koepp,known for “Jurassic Park.” The film features Emily Blunt, Wyatt Russell, Josh O’Connor, and others. Spielberg and kristie Macosko Krieger produced the film for Amblin Entertainment, along with Chris Brigham.
This UFO project marks Spielberg’s first directorial effort since 2022’s “The Fabelmans,” a film inspired by his early life. Beyond directing, Spielberg is producing “Jurassic World Rebirth” with Scarlett Johansson, “The Thursday Murder Club” on Netflix with Pierce Brosnan, and the “Cape Fear” series on Apple TV+ starring Amy Adams.
“[I still have] an appetite for a Western, which I will someday hopefully do. It’s something that’s eluded me for all of these decades,” Spielberg saeid.
