The prestigious Sofitel Marina Hotel in Cotonou hosted the grand opening ceremony of World Cotton Day, marking a historic first for Benin and for the entire African continent. This event, organized under the patronage of the Beninese government, brought together global players in white gold, political figures, experts in the cotton industry, international partners, as well as players in the agricultural sector.
In addition to the ceremony and protocol activities, the World Cotton Day 2024 was marked by fruitful exchanges and detailed reflections on the future of this strategic sector for the African economy. Panels and discussions were held throughout the processs two during the dayswith the participation of several Experts and players in the cotton industry.
We will not hide the strong participation of the FIFA delegation. The umbrella organization of world football committed to helping make African cotton a vector of development. This is within the framework of cotton development projects and especially the textile and clothing industry through the Cotton Partnership (WTO-FIFA Partnership). This ambitious and unprecedented collaboration raises hope in Benin as well as in the C-4+ countries that aim to truly integrate into the cotton-textiles and clothing value chain.
On the afternoon of October 7, the participants of this edition visited the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ), a special economic zone dedicated to the industrial processing of agricultural products, including cotton. This visit allowed international delegations to discover the potential of this area and the huge investments made by the Beninese government to transform raw cotton into high added value products, thus strengthening the local economy and international competitiveness.
This event marks the beginning of a new era for African cotton, combining innovation, international partnership and industrial transformation.
