Muslim League (N) Splits into Two Factions in Gilgit-Baltistan
The Muslim League (N), a prominent political and parliamentary party, has experienced a significant split in Gilgit-Baltistan following a year of internal differences.
The party’s provincial leadership in Gilgit-Baltistan has been grappling with internal conflicts over the past year. This led to the formation of a parallel organizational structure by Provincial General Secretary Akbar Taban, who formally rebelled against Provincial President and former Prime Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman.
The newly formed executive committee, comprising 32 members, including two government officials, aims to reconstitute the party across the region. This move is seen as a significant development in the party’s efforts to reorganize and strengthen its presence in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Provincial Minister Engineer Muhammad Anwar addressed a meeting in this regard, stating that individuals with a dictatorial mindset within the party had caused irreparable damage. As a result, the decision was made to make the party operational, with a focus on forming a robust party structure at the departmental level, in addition to the existing Zeli Wings.
Notable figures, including Provincial Tourism Minister Ghulam Mohammad and Party President Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, are part of one faction, while Food Minister Engineer Anwar, Assembly Member Sanam Mariad, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Yasir Taban, Provincial Government Spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, and Coordinator of the Chief Minister Sharafuddin Fariad are aligned with General Secretary Akbar Taban.
