Nathan Brown Misses Sunday Footy Show Due to Gastro
Nathan Brown was a late withdrawal from the Sunday Footy Show
grand final edition after falling ill with a form of gastro. Fellow panellist Damian Barrett received a text message at 5:48 a.m. stating that Brown was unwell. Barrett noted that Brown had not taken a sick day throughout their long acquaintance.
Panellists Matthew Lloyd and Rory Sloane offered their sympathies, but Tony Jones used Brown’s absence for on-air banter. Jones stated that this is our grand final show and you would like to go in full strength,
before reading out Brown’s finals record and suggesting it was not the first time he had gone missing in September. Jones later qualified the remarks by saying, I wish you well
and We love you Nath.
Despite the illness sidelining him from the broadcast, Brown is still scheduled to travel to the Northern Territory with his wife, Kristine, to hike the 170km Larapinta Trail over an eight-day period. We want to show our kids there’s a bloody big world out there and there’s more to life than the comfortable stuff,
Brown said of the upcoming trek.
Rebecca Maddern Sidelined by Influenza
Channel 7 host Rebecca Maddern also missed major commitments during the sports calendar’s peak week after contracting influenza. She was absent from the traditional Grand Final eve lunch at Crown, an event she co-hosts with Hamish McLachlan. Maddern was likewise unavailable for Saturday morning broadcast duties following her co-hosting role at the Brownlow Medal alongside McLachlan.
