Several major sporting organizations and agencies are implementing strategic leadership changes and commercial partnerships to drive growth and accessibility. These developments span from the national governing bodies of equestrian and cycling sports in the United Kingdom to the global operations of Formula E and high-end motorsport hospitality.
British Equestrian Commercial Restructuring
British Equestrian has appointed Mongoose, a global sports, entertainment and lifestyle agency, as its new global sponsorship and partnership agency. The agency is tasked with conducting a strategic review of the national federation’s existing commercial landscape to help commercialize the sport.
The remit for Mongoose includes developing a sustainable partnership model and creating narrative-led rights packages. The agency will also value commercial assets and articulate the sport’s market value to potential partners. While the initiative is UK-led, it maintains a global commercial focus to attract both domestic and international brands.
A primary objective of this partnership is to ensure long-term financial stability while repositioning equestrian sport as one that already embodies equality structurally, visually, and culturally. This commercial push comes as the sport manages transitions in its top talent; para dressage medallist Strong Beau is set to retire on April 14, 2026, and Mary King announced her retirement from competition on April 7, 2026.
Our partnership with Mongoose marks an important step in strengthening our global commercial proposition. As a successful sport steeped in tradition which uniquely showcases the bond between humans and equines, we have a distinctive story to tell, and Mongoose will help us translate that into meaningful, long-term partnerships.
Jim Eyre, CEO, British Equestrian
British Cycling Community and Performance Initiatives
British Cycling is expanding its community-based Lloyds ReCycle Hubs initiative. Following a successful pilot, the project will grow from five to ten sites across the UK to improve bike accessibility. This expansion addresses research from British Cycling indicating that 41% of the British population do not own a bike, often due to barriers regarding storage and affordability.
The hubs focus on reviving and refurbishing donated or abandoned bikes for those in need. The partnership with Lloyds is now in its third year, and applications remain open for grassroots groups, bike hubs, and community organizations to apply for mentoring and grant funding.
This project is a real catalyst for social change which is a key pillar of the wider British Cycling strategy. Not only will it bring significant improvements to health and well-being, but Lloyds ReCycle Hubs will have a positive impact on the environment, and open opportunities to many people across the UK, making real social impact for those in underrepresented groups
Tracy Power, Managing Director of the British Cycling Foundation
Parallel to these community efforts, the Great Britain Cycling Team has restructured its leadership to focus on the LA 2028 Olympics. Paul Mullan has transitioned to Deputy Performance Director – Head of Performance, and Bethany Widdup has become Head of Performance Delivery. In the BMX Freestyle Park programme, Greg Illingworth has been appointed Programme Coach, assisted by retired Olympic bronze medallist Declan Brooks as BMX FSP Tech Coach.
