STADE, Germany – Sports clubs in the Stade district are experiencing a surge in membership, driven by activities ranging from‌ dance adn gymnastics too rowing and running. According to the Kreissportbund Stade (KSB), the district’s sports association, a recent survey for 2025 ⁤reveals a membership increase of nearly 1,000, bringing the total to 66,067 active members across 144 clubs.

Membership Exceeds 1,000

While the KSB Stade reports three fewer clubs compared to 2024, the​ overall trend remains positive. Two clubs, TV Germania Drochtersen⁤ and TSV Wiepenkathen, have surpassed 1,000 ⁣members for the first time. ‍TSV Wiepenkathen leads the district wiht⁤ an increase of 120 members. MTV wangersen‍ also reported a notable increase.”We​ experienced strong growth last year,particularly in children’s and youth programs,” saeid Bernd schnackenberg,MTV sports director. The association is investing in new equipment and specialized programs, with the children’s dance division proving particularly ⁤popular, drawing participants from as far as 30 kilometers ​away.

VfL​ Stade leads with 5,014 members, followed by Buxtehuder SV (3,896) and TuS Harsefeld (3,135) as major players⁢ in the regional sports scene. Sixteen‌ of the 144 associations within the KSB Stade have more than 1,000 members. An additional 24 clubs have over 500 members, and 69 clubs range between 100 and 500 members. Thirty-five clubs have fewer than 100 members, with the smallest sports ⁣club in the district ⁤having ⁣only nine members.

The ‍District of⁤ Stade ⁢is also​ strengthening sports funding‍ through ⁣increased‌ financial support and reduced bureaucracy.

Rugby saw the ⁢most significant increase (420 percent), followed by rowing (115 percent) and lifeguarding (30 percent). Karate and dart both experienced a 20 percent increase.

The DLRG local group Horneburg/Altes Land has successfully developed a swimming program. According to DLRG chairwoman Rainer Bohmbach, the group addressed a local deficit by recruiting additional volunteer trainers to expand swimming and lifeguard training.
