Spotify Finally Catches Up: Lossless Audio Arrives, But Is It Enough?
For years, audiophiles have lamented Spotify’s compressed audio quality, a necessary evil for the convenience of streaming. Today, that changes. Spotify has announced the rollout of lossless audio for Premium subscribers, offering a richer, more detailed listening experience. Tracks will now be available in up to 24-bit and 44.1 kHz FLAC, a notable upgrade for those who crave sonic fidelity.
“The wait is finally over,” says Gustav Gyllenhammar, Spotify’s VP of Subscriptions. “we’ve taken time to build this feature in a way that prioritizes quality, ease of use, and clarity at every step.”
This move positions Spotify to better compete with rivals like Tidal, which launched its HiFi tier back in 2015
