Everyone’s music preferences are different, but it’s also true that we’re more exposed to a diverse range of music than ever, thanks to music streaming platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music. However, not every platform does a great job of finding you something that matches your taste, though it also depends on who you ask. In Spotify’s case, one of the major complaints users have about it is its music recommendations through Discover Weekly.

Spotify’s Discover Weekly feature launched 10 years ago to help users discover new music that they may not find on their own. While its purpose is to bring you new music tailored to your listening habits, one of the biggest issues many users complain about is a lack of variety in genres in the Discover Weekly playlist, and that it’s a hit or miss. If you’re one of those people, Spotify’s latest feature might make you fall in love with the Discover Playlist again.

Spotify’s new feature might make you love the Discover Weekly playlist more

If you’re a Spotify Premium user, you’ll now see new control options at the top of the playlist to help you select what kind of genres you want the Discover Playlist to recommend to you the most. This is a great way to tell Spotify if you recently started liking a new genre and want more of it in the Discover Weekly playlist.

Don’t worry if it gets boring over time. You’ll be able to change the filter and select another, and Spotify will update the playlist accordingly. You can also rely on Spotify to curate everything in the Discover Weekly just as you did previously. In simple words, it gives more power to the users. However, it’s worth remembering that you can select only one filter from the given options.

The ability to tune music recommendations isn’t the only feature Spotify added to Discover Weekly. In addition, the Discover Weekly is also getting a new look with updated cover art (via The Verge). All these changes are now available in the latest version of the Spotify app for both Android and iOS. So, if you don’t see those filters, go to the Google Play Store or App Store to install the latest version of the Spotify app.

The ability to apply filters in the Discover Weekly playlist should make it easier to discover new tracks in a particular genre you like, but that doesn’t mean it’s a silver bullet. You should also give Spotify’s AI Playlist a try if you haven’t already to find your new favourite songs.
