Mid-September 2026 Rollout of the AI Persona Badge

Spotify users will soon be able to distinguish between real human musicians and computer-generated profiles through a new labeling system rolling out in mid-September 2026, according to official company announcements from the streaming platform. The platform is introducing an AI Persona Badge to address listener demand for transparency regarding artist identities.

The new badge will appear on artist profiles in banners and info sections, search results, and tracks within playlists starting in mid-September 2026. Listeners can tap the badge to see whether an artist self-disclosed their status or if Spotify identified the profile through internal checks.

Self-Disclosure and Automated Platform Flagging

Alongside voluntary self-disclosure, Spotify will independently review and flag profiles that use names and imagery to present themselves as photorealistically generated personas, focusing initially on profiles that have crossed specific reach thresholds.

Artists affected by automated flagging will receive a notification and can either self-disclose or appeal the decision. In the coming months, the platform also plans to introduce a reporting tool allowing listeners to flag profiles they suspect are AI personas.

Editorial Exclusion and Active Following Rules

Music created by AI personas will not be included in editorial or personalized recommendations by default, according to Spotify. Such tracks will only appear to users who actively follow the respective AI persona, as the platform’s programming prioritizes human artists building traditional careers.

Prioritizing Trust and Public Artist Identity

The company has framed artist identity and trust as a primary focus for 2026, introducing features such as “Von Spotify verifiziert” to confirm human profiles, alongside “SongDNA” and “KI-Songinfos” for tracking how music is made.

Spotify clarified that the new AI Persona Badge concerns the public identity of the artist rather than the production process of the underlying tracks.
