Expanding Video Access
Spotify is rolling out music videos to Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada by the end of December 2025, significantly expanding the feature’s availability. The company first announced beta support for music videos in March 2024, initially limiting access to 11 markets including the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya.
As of October 2025, the feature had expanded to 97 countries worldwide, coinciding with the release of a redesigned Apple TV app that supports music videos. Spotify encourages users to “stay tuned” as availability is set to grow “over the coming months.”
How to Watch Music Videos on Spotify
Premium subscribers can access music videos through the Spotify app on their TV, desktop, iOS, or Android devices. A “Switch to Video” icon will appear above the song title in supported tracks. Selecting this icon starts the song from the beginning with the accompanying video displayed within the Now Playing view.
On iPhone and Android devices, the Now Playing view can be rotated to landscape orientation for an enhanced viewing experience. Users can also discover additional music videos by scrolling down to the “Related Music Videos” section or by visiting an artist’s profile and navigating to the “Music” tab. Spotify also curates music videos by genre and era through playlists like “90s Video Hits,” “Hip-Hop Throwbacks,” and “Latin Party Hits.”
Spotify’s Video Evolution and Competition
Prior to this rollout, Spotify’s video content was limited to video podcasts and short, looping music video clips. This move directly addresses a feature long offered by competitors, notably Apple Music, which integrated a music video catalog in March 2018 with the release of iOS 11.3. Apple Music’s video libary has been available for nearly seven years, giving it a meaningful head start in the music video streaming space.
Looking Ahead
Spotify’s expansion into music videos represents a significant step in its effort to become a more extensive entertainment platform. The company is highly likely to continue expanding video availability and perhaps explore original video content in the future. The success of this feature will depend on securing licensing agreements with record labels and artists to offer a robust and diverse video library.
